The FinanceFlick: Tax Tea Unplugged (Live from Detroit)

Welcome to The FinanceFlick! Last week, I had the chance to hit up the 2024 Tax Planning Summit in Detroit — we talked taxes, and I actually had a blast! Who knew taxes could be fun, right? But don’t worry, I’m here to spill the tea, not bore you with filing details.
A Tax Pro’s Playground
So, let’s get into it. The summit was a two-day extravaganza organized by the fabulous Dominique from AICTP. She kicked things off with a talk that hit home. She basically said, if you’re not passionate about your work, it’s gonna suck the life outta you — and no one wants that! She then threw us a curveball, tying it into taxes. How can taxes bring you joy? (Yeah, I was skeptical too.) But she nailed it — saving money through smart tax planning can fund your next big splurge, whether it’s a new car, a dream home, or a ticket to somewhere far, far away. Plus, she opened up Day 2 with a live episode of her spooky (but oddly entertaining) podcast, Tax Crime Junkies. Trust me, it was a vibe.
Rocking the Tax World
Next up was Marvelless Mark, and let me tell you, this guy’s a legit rockstar — no joke. He strutted on stage in a sparkly suit, drumsticks in hand, and somehow turned a tax talk into a rock concert. His message was all about the ABCD chords of success: (A)ction, (B)and, (C)hange, and (D)reams. Whether you’re a tax advisor, a surgeon, or even Taylor Swift (who’s crushing it on her Eras Tour, by the way), these chords are your key to rocking your career. I mean, who knew taxes and drum solos could mix so well?
Wealth Preservation with a Green Twist
But my absolute fave was Boris. And no, it’s not just because we work together (okay, maybe a little). He’s got this killer strategy for wealth preservation that’s a hit with high-earners — and it’s all about solar. Yep, we’re those environmentalists who also like our bank accounts looking healthy. He made the case that you can save the planet and fatten your wallet (just a bit) at the same time. Double win, am I right?
Night at the Museum
Oh, and did I mention the gala dinner at the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation? The place was closed off just for us, so we got to sip drinks, wander around, mingle, and enjoy a killer dinner. Shoutout to Beth for snagging the CTP of the Year award — definitely a well-deserved win!
A Bonus for You
Pro tip: If you’re ever in Detroit, make sure to hit up Leña at 2720 Brush St. The arroz calasparra and sangria are worth every penny. Trust me, your taste buds will thank you.
So, if you missed this year’s summit and want to chat about the solar strategy we presented, don’t be shy. Book a quick meeting with me whenever you’ve got a minute.
